Day 32

Titus 2:11-13
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

When I think of self-control in general, I thought I am quite good at it. I can control my tongue, I can control my way of spending money. I won't spend excessively, won't buy things out of impulse, won't eat too much, won't play too much... I seem quite balanced and disciplined. But God requires more than that. "to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions"; that's a challenge to the heart. We have to control not just our action but also our thought. To live "upright and godly lives"; that's even a higher goal which is not easy to reach.

Lord, I used to think I am quite OK but the more I look into your words, the more I find myself not up to standard. I see more and more of my own inadequacy. We tried to be good, to do things on our own, but what we actually need is Your grace to help us through.

Say 'no' rightaway and stay away from temptation!

Lord, keep me from worldly passion and shield me from any ungodliness. Grant me the power of self-control and make me lead an upright and godly life amidst this perverted generation, help me to wait patiently for you and do not lose hope in your promises. Assure me firmly that God's grace is sufficient for me. AMEN!
